1. About the Ram Mandir — Why It Matters

The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir in Ayodhya is built on the site believed by Hindus to be the birthplace of Lord Rama — the seventh avatar of Lord Vishnu and one of the most revered deities in the Hindu tradition. The temple's opening on 22 January 2024 marked the end of a centuries-long religious and legal journey that touched the lives of hundreds of millions of people across India.

The temple is built in the Nagara style of north Indian temple architecture — a style characterised by a towering curvilinear spire (shikhar) rising above the sanctum sanctorum, intricate carved pillars, and mandapas (halls) for congregation. Remarkably, no steel or iron was used in its construction — the structure relies entirely on stone, copper, and traditional building techniques. The main shikhar, completed in November 2025, rises to 161 feet (49 metres) and is crowned with a 42-foot gold-plated flagstaff flying the Dharma Dhwaja.
